Guitar Star, by Gary Ryan - ABRSM

Overview - A real star!

Guitar Star by ABRSM and Gary Ryan is a real Star! What a great book to work with kids.

It consistis in 42 progressive pieces for the classical guitar. Some of them are duets for the teacher and the student, that are really nice to play together.

Starting with songs using just open strings, the book progresses really well in adding more elements to the pieces and to the end of the book the last pieces are really exciting and the blues rock "Cool Cat" if for certain most of kids favourite one.

It comprises a variety of styles like classical, rock, pop, calypso and more.

Reading

This is an excellent material to start kids on music reading.

I would also work with something more detailed like "A Tune a Day" or "Guitarist's Way" in parallel but Guitar Star is must because it's a song book, very well made and arranged that will help kids learn how to read music.

Design

The design of this book is absolute great! The notes on the staff are on a good size for beginners and almost every page has an illustration by Tim Budgen. The illustrations are wonderful and kids love it!

An illustration showing the Big Ben dancing with The Gherkin, besides the St Paul's Cathedral and the London Bridge. On the Street level a double decker bus and a black cab.,

The best thing: Playback Recordings

I would say the best thing is this book is the recordings. They are absolute fab! And again, Kids love it!

Playing with the music is essential to develop as a musician and this book did an excellent job on it. The songs are just great, well arranged and helpful for learning.

I can't recommend more the Guitar Star!
