Good news!
The good news is that learning guitar takes a whole file. And that's the magic about it! The more you learn the more exciting it gets and more possibilities open in front of your eyes, or to put it better, your ears.
Today, after 20 years of playing, my practice time is never enough, I always have a feeling that something was left behind. I feel I should have practised more chords, or I should have worked more on rhythm, etc.
But practice is always fun, without a doubt!
The long road.
Practising the guitar wasn't always that fun. At the beginning I remember quite well that I still wanted to play but looked like I had run out of things to do with the guitar. And that was because I didn't know much about harmony, melody or rhythm. So, my practice after a while would get rather boring.
Keeping the practise going however, even when it was hard and seemed very slow, took me where I am today, and I'm really glad I insisted on it.
Having the gift of music in your life is the coolest thing in the world.
So how long does it take to learn a song then?
The truth.
Well, for this question there is no simple answer, it will be quite different to each individual.
It will depend specially on two things, how much time a day you have to study, and if the song matches your level.
As a beginner.
The most important thing if you are a beginner is that you start with something easy.
Of course you don't want to learn the guitar to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb", but this is a good place to start.
Starting out trying something too hard for you will only lead to disappointment and waste of time.
If you start with something easy you might succeed sooner than you think, and a lightbulb will flick in your brain telling you "hey, you can do that!" and from the first song you go to the second, and then to the third.
After that you just have to keep working hard, enjoy the process and let the magic happen!
